Nightlife in Hanoi information
A few years ago taking a drink in Hanoi meant paying through the nose for a beer in relatively smart hotel lobby, or joining the locals for a cheap and cheerful bia hoi at some street-side stall or garden (this latter option is still available and is heartily recommended to visitors by ElephantGuide.com). Over the years however, all this has changed so dramaticallty that visitors to the Vietnamese capital are now spoiled for choice.
The hotel bars still exist of course but their quality has improved to the extent that they now hold their own among the most sophisticated bars hotel bars around the region. Elsewhere, new operations have been springing up at an almost alarming rate. Originally a few entrepreneurial expatrites opened small bars and cafes, followed by their Vietnamese colleagues, and later very sophisticated nightclubs and "entertainment centres" followed.
Younger visitors and expats tend to gravitate towards some of the more raucous bars and clubs such as The Spotted Cow and Apocalypse Now, while the young Vietnamese set flock to the city's new nightclubs. Older hands might prefer to hang out in some of the more refined bars that have opened around town, including Bobby Chin's or Jacc's (although the latter can definately get quite loud at times).
In short, whatever your tastes or budget, you'll be able to find something to suit and you should surely enjoy Hanoi's after hours scene.
Nice Places to have fun
Highway Four
This bar/restaurant serves up tasty dishes along with a mind-boggling array of the local moonshine - rice wine (ruou). The two-story structure also serves as a gathering spot for Hanoi's motorbiking Minsk club, so it's a good place to pick up info on motorbiking Vietnam. Great rooftop terrace, too. Located on 5 Pho Hang Tre St. in the Old Quarter.
Polite Pub
A popular pub known for its late hours, it’s apparently frequented by expats on weekends. Right next to another happening bar too. Located on 5 Pho Bao Khanh St.
Apocalypse Now
The legendary bar is run by the same people as the location in Ho Chi Minh City. The atmosphere is raucous and lively, and the joint closes when that last barfly stumbles out. Located on 5C Pho Hoa Ma St.
Funky Monkey
A little nightspot that seems to be popular with expats and tourists, if that’s your thing. Bonus - there's a pool table. Located in the Hoan Kiem District, on 15B Hang Hanh St.

Most of these sites seem to give you a good start, and I guess they worked for me when I first got to Hanoi. However, there's a much better local site that keeps things far more updated. If you're staying or passing through, I'd reccomend it:
