Expatriate Forums in Vietnam

Hi folks,

A very quick change of plan make me decide for Vietnam. I wish to stay in this country for the rest of my life (In Dalat). I’m here in HCMC without too much preparation except for a last minute 6-month visa.

Permanent Residency: Does this status exist? Or is it more simple to keep on renewing visas?

Driver License: My Canadian Driver License (Québec) has expired last November. Is it still possible to get a new Vietnamese one? (I understand that a VALIDE one is required in order to get a Vietnamese one)

Marriage: Being Legally Separated by the Court (not divorced), what are the procedures to marry a Vietnamese?

Any help will be welcome and sincerely appreciate. Thanks in advance for your time.

Permanent Residency: affraid not unless you are Vietnamese foreigner or your spouse is vietnamese
Drive license:you must have a valid license to change, if not you have to take an examine like other vietnamese residents ( interpreter not accepted in theory exam)
Marriage: if you can get a certifcate from canada consulate that you are single or marriage- possible, you can marry a vietnamese

Am I reading this correctly? You are legally separated, not divorced, but want to get married again already? Isn't that illegal in your country, to be legally married to two different people? It is in Vietnam. You're going to need some documentation from your home country that you are single before you can marry here.

It looks like you're not going to be able to get married as quickly as you'd like, which is probably a blessing in disguise, since it's probably premature if you only just arrived and have already made up your mind that you want to spend the rest of your life here.

So as far as the process goes, I'd say: Step One: slow down.
