Ton Po
Riverside Thai Restaurant
Phra Athit road. Daily 11am-10pm (280-0452)

A riverside restaurant with a real Thai flavour. Ton Po once had a wide covered veranda on the Chao Phraya river but was removed to give way to a riverside walkway project by the city of Bangkok. The cool breeze and the view of the river still can be obtained with a table right by the river. Most of the foods here are delicious and the special menus are 'Steamed Snakehead Fish with Curry Paste and Herb' and 'Spicy Gurami Soup Mixed Herb and Tamarind Leaves'.

On the foot of Pra Pinklao bridge on Thonburi side. Rim Nam, meaning waterside in Thai, already tells the where about of this restaurant.

From across the Chao Phraya River in the dark of the night, The Supatra River House offers a magnificent view of the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn with a twinkle of lights dancing in the water. For dining pleasure, Supatra River House offers a wide selection of fresh seafood prepared according to authentic Thai recipes in a choice of 'a la carte' or set menus. Originally a river house of the owner of Chao Phraya Express Boat and has been tranformed into the restaurant in late 1999. Boat shuttle is available from Maharaj pier.

Lan Te

On the right side of Maharaj pier, Lan Te is one of not many fullside riverside restaurant that is near Wat Phra Kaeo and The Grand Palace. The restaurant less than 5 minutes walk from the Grand Palace makes it a good spot to catch a breeze from the river after a 2-hour tour of Wat Phra Kaeo. Parking is availble in front of the restaurant free for 1 hour and 30 Baht and hour afterward and become free again after 17:00. Maharaj pier is also home of Chao Phraya Express Boat's office where you can make an arrangement about any river and canal tours.

Chote Jit

Couple shophouses off Tanao Road inside Phraeng Phuton area

Chote Jit is another one fine restaurant in the middle of old-style row houses. It has been opened for approximately 80 years. Don't forget to order Mee Krob, Kaeng Som, Kaeng Lieng. This place is an all-time favorite restaurant of a Bangkok Post food critic.

Opened for more than 70 years but just moved to this facility, Potch Spa Karn cooks its foods based on a recipe from the royal Thai kitchen. Try Kang Jeud Look Rok and Mee Krob.

Mitr Ko Yuan
Democracy Monument. Daily 10am-11pm (224-3088)

Mitr Ko Yuan, a one row-house shop, has been opened for business for more than 65 years. Well-known for the taste and variety of its food, this restaurant serves Thai, Chinese and Western foods. A favourite menu is Mee Krob Rama V, Tom Yum Koong, Phad Poy Xian, Sirloin Salad, Cow-tongue Stew and Steak. A tiny and kind owner always walk around asking the ups and downs of his frequent customers. If you are not a regular, you may sweat when the bill come. Several zeros are added to the real total just for the sake of the fun from the owner. Lately, the interior has been renovated so the old feeling is gone but the taste's still the same since day one.

Sorn Daeng

Enjoy tasty Thai food and seafood at this eatery on the southern side of the Monument. The dishes which are excellent value for money include southern Thai specialties such as Kaeng Matsaman.

Traditional cafe-style Bangkok restaurant with excellent, unpretentious food. A unique place offering scrumptious home-cooked meals in a relaxing atmosphere. The popular dishes are Creamy Corn Soup / Onion Soup, Pepper Steak, Steamed Chicken Marinated in whisky, and lots of Japanese Dishes. Two private rooms available at no extra charge.

Likhit Kaiyang
The best charcoal roasted chicken and north-eastern food

A long reputation for its roasted chicken and north-eastern food, Likhit Kaiyang is very crowded especially on the fight night; Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Sundays. Avoid if you don't like crowd. There are two kinds of roasted chicken. The regular one prices at Bht90 and special one, called Kai Baan or Home Chicken, costs Bht120. The owner claims that his restaurant has been well-knowned among Japanese travelers.

Takiang Restaurant

This dimmy restaurant has a huge collection of antique lamps, hence the name of the restaurant. The food are so delicious. You can order anything from the menu, there are all mouth-watering. If you don't know what to choose, pick from the recommended items. You won't be disappointed. Kang Som is good for a soup. Cost for two is about Bht500 (exclusive of alcohol)

Nang Nual
Near Memorial Bridge

At the corner where khlong Ong Ang meet Chao Phraya River not far from the Memorial Bridge, Nang Nual restaurant is across the khlong from the southern-most land of Rattanakosin Island. Restaurant also has an open-air veranda right on the river. Good location before or after a shopping spree at the Memorial Bridge's night market.

Opus Vineria

It's an Italian restaurant located in Pan Road in Sathorn/Silom area. If you're an expat looking for some fine dining, this place is really quite brilliant. They provide set menus as well as a la carte so you can pick and chose whatever you want.
