Hello all! My family and I just moved here in June from the US and will be here for three years. My 19 year old daughter really needs to make some english speaking friends so I can get her out of my hair! If you, or anyone you know, are between the ages of 18 and 20 and live near the Sukhumvit BTS please let me know. She loves to go shopping, to the movies and just hanging out with people her own age. Thank you so much. |

| I see that a lot of people are looking at my message but no-one is replying. There has to be someone that knows someone or even a better forum for me to go to. All my daughter needs is one friend and her life here in Bangkok would be so much better. Any help we can get is appreciated. Thanks. |

Is is not easy to make English speaking friends here unless you are an adult or a student.
Does your daughter go to school? If not, perhaps you can sign her up in some English language school like AUA....
How about letting her do volunteer work at Pakret Orphanage??? She will meet lots of other English speaking volunteers |

Hi Rima
If you look at the post under yours that is a young woman looking for new people to meet up with in Bangkok - why don't you or possibly your daughter contact this British girl.

Hi,
I know its been a while since your post, but I am still going to reply anyway. In one of the post, its been mentioned that going to school makes it easy to meet people. But that's not 100% true. I grew up in Bangladesh and went to international school throughout my life, so when I came to Bangkok for my Bachelors, I was also trying to get 'Engish speaking friends'. But I didn't have much luck at school. I have no real complain with the quality of education, its nice and really pretty decent. But then the locals have a way of staying a bit aloof and a lot of them don't even speak English even though all the subjects are taught in English. I would also consider myself a bit unlucky because most of the class that I was in had more local students than international students so it was difficult to make friends. I have been here in Thailand for about 6 months now and I only have one Thai friend but he also grew up in outside Thailand. But yes now, fairly recently I have managed to make friends people from Bangladesh, China, Vietnam etc. But still it does get quite boring at times since they are not available all the time. Anyway, if you daughter hasn't found friends yet then you can give her my email address and I will try and introduce her to some of my friends.
Also, if you want to try some other website where you can post a similar message try thaivisa (dot) com.
Cheers,
Fareed. |
