I stay in Scotland at the moment and am married to a Thai national who has British Citizenship. We are planning to move to Thailand permanently soon after my 50th birthday. What are the visa implications for me.We were married in the U.K.

eRRr...Phils, I guess the better way would be to go to the nearest Thai Embassy in Scotland, and for your wife, since she's holding a Brit passport, She might just need to refer to her homecountries embassy.

Not much of a difficult thing, just the normal procedure. Good Luck!

Well, to be honest. You cannot have a permanent resident if you are not satisfied the criteria of the Immigration Bureau of Thailand. I would give you some examples of such criteria:

1. you can understand Thai language very well.
2. you have been holding valid non-immigrant visa at least 3 years.
3. etc.

Anyhow, you can apply for non-immigrant visa to stay in Thailand for a number or reasons. I think that this will be a better way for you.

If you are over over 50 years old and can show proof of a sum of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank OR an income of not less than 65,000 baht per month from offshore sources - OR a combination of balance in the bank and a monthly income. you can qualify for a retiree visa.
Even if your wife holds a foreign passport, Thailand welcomes former citizens back. She can apply for her Thai id card. which entitles her to all the rights of Thai citizens ..including owning property.
If you have children, those children can apply for Thai citizenship..even if they are older. that's because the children of Thai citizens are considered Thai citizens.
We recently applied for our 25 year old daughter and recently got her a Thai birth certificate.
