| I am bringing my granddaughter to live with me in Tainan, and have not been able to find a school for her. I can home-school her, but I want her to have interaction with other kids. She is seven years old and knows no Chinese. What's a Grandma to do?? What do other foreigners with English-only speaking kids in Tainan do since there is no American school and only 2 bilingual schools in the city? Please advise. |

I think the bi-lingual schools(Chinese/Eng) would be better...
Kids learn fast and she will adapt well as long as you're not pushing her for the higher grades initially.
Go and talk to the headmaster of the bilingual sch and see what arrangements can be made for this special situation.
The nearest American sch is in Tai Chung which is too far. |

I'm sure those 2 schools must be used to this kind of situation.
Furthermore as said penny, kids usually do not face too much difficulty in such environment. I know one of 12 years old who did not speak a word of French 6 months ago and now she has the best grades of her class in a French School for writting - still has some speaking difficulties from time to time though. |
