I have been following this forum for more than a year and this is the first real post from an expatriate.
I am a Sudanese man, living and working in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. Last year I visited Sudan for the first time in many years. I noticed that the majority of expats in Sudan are employees of international organizations and embassies. And that everybody has their own group to hang out with. Those groups consist of co-workers, both foreigners and English-speaking locals. And one more thing, Khartoum is the capital and the biggest city, but does not offer a lot of options for hanging out. There's only one mall, called Afraa Mall, close to a 5-star hotel, named Rotana Hotel.
When we were little kids in the 1970's and 80's, Khartoum was a beautiful city. And there was a large community of Western expatriates. But now everything has become uglier and life has deteriorated to horrible levels. But once you get used to things, you'll start enjoying them. And I'm sure fellow expatriates would help you settle in and enjoy your life there.
In case you have any question, please don't hesitate to ask me, either through PM on this forum or call my UAE cellphone 00971503190831.
I wish you the best of luck,
