SHOPPING IN SLOVENIA
General
While you wouldn't come to Slovenia to do much serious shopping, fashionable shoe stores abound in Ljubljana; for the latest selection head to shops on Stari trg in the Old Town.
The most interesting gifts to buy in Slovenia are the homemade products you come across in your travels: wine from Ptuj, rakija (a potent spirit distilled from fruit) from Pleterje Monastery, herbal teas from Sticna Monastery, and honey from Radovljica. The Slovenian products best known abroad are connected with outdoor sports. If you'd like some Planika walking boots or Elan skis, you can get a good deal on them here. Other attractive local gifts include bobbin lace and crystal glass.

Banking hours
Mon-Fri 0830-1230 and 1400-1700; Sat 0830-1100/1200.
Currency
Euro = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of Euro;500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of Euro;2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.
Currency exchange
Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and some hotels, supermarkets, petrol stations, tourist agencies and exchange bureaux.
Credit & debit cards
American Express, Diners, EuroCard, MasterCard and Visa are accepted at upmarket establishments; elsewhere cash is preferred. Credit cards can be used to get cash advances from banks.
Traveller's cheques
Widely accepted. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in Euros, US Dollars or Pounds Sterling.
Currency restrictions
