I am considering relocating to Singapore from California. I have read that cars are very expensive in Singapore, so I would like to find out if it is practical to import my car into the country. It is a Japanese-made Infiniti with the driver's side on the left.

Will I have any problems? Will there be huge tarrifs if I'm going to use this car for personal transportation?

Forget it Fred! the cars in Singapore are expensive due to the fact that the Government dont want them there. There are reasons for this including that the Government used to hold the molopoly on all cabs, also bare in mind that all fuel is imported, cars imported and there public transport is reliable. But to import a car they would sting you hard, you can not even leave the country to drive to Malaysia unless your petrol tank is over 3/4 full. I think you would be hit hard with tarrifs, transport costs and customs duty. Check with your Embassy. Good luck

Freddy,

I would say yea, you are going to run into a stiff and tough Singapore government, but you still may be better off shipping it in the long run – so that you have the car you want and not a sub-par Singapore-made deathtrap – it is hard to put a price on these things –right?

So, if you decide to ship it I would recommend going to AutomobileShippingQuotes - just google them (I was going to provide a link but I cannot until my 10th post). They give you ten quotes that are competitive and come from reputable companies – I used a company from their site and was very happy. My car was in perfect shape after the shipping from the US to Thailand and I actually spent less than I had budgeted for. But don’t take my word for it – check it out yourself!

Cheers!
