i would love to get in contact with anyone who has brought a cat from a non-scheduled country. i am planning on moving in about 3 weeks, and i have some questions. one of which is, if they administer a rabies vaccination at quarantine regardless of vaccination history, and the singapore airline require certification of rabies vaccination, is there anyway to avoid over exposing an animal to a dangerous vaccination that's known to have an associated risk of cancer at the site of injection? i have heard some vets will administer in the tail to make amputation less difficult and improve the risk of survival if cancer does develop. will the vets at quarantine be willing to administer this way? i have other a few other questions as well. would anyone who has been though the process please contact me (mcarmelm@hotmail.com) so i can ask them about their experience? thanks so much for your time.

My husband and I moved our two cats from California to Singapore in May of last year. I was not so happy with the whole quarantine thing but it turned out just fine.
You do NOT need to get a rabies vaccination prior to arriving - the quarantine station will tell you the same thing. The airlines only needed a health certificate showing the cats are in good health. The quarantine vet will administer a rabies injection upon arrival as well as flea/tick medicine (unless you have proof from US vet that it was done already).

The risk of cancer and rabies vaccination is unknown to me so I cannot be of help there. Perhaps you can talk to the quarantine station about being present when the vet does the examination and rabies vaccination. That way you can ask to have it administered a certain way.

The folks at the Pet Hotel are excellent. I had a million questions and we communicated via email for a month before we arrived. They are very understanding and took great care of our little ones. I think they had more trouble with the flight and the heat.

Good luck to you!
