Hello!
I am considering working in Philippines (got an offer). Lots of things are apealing to me about it, but I am wondering about safety aspect. Are there any risks for responsible persons living there? In everyday life? Should I be worried about any danger which could occur to my wife if she is out on herself while I am working??
I have made around 50 trips there over the past 15-16 years, some for many months.
In fact I spent much of '91-92 there.
In all that time I have never had any problems whatsoever.
Never been robbed, had my pocket picked, been attacked or anything.
(Well, apart from the taxi drivers at Manila airport who would rob their own gradmothers!)
One needs some common sense, and dont go flashing wads of cash or expensive jewellery around.
Most "crimes" are those of persuasion.
DO NOT go with someone who offers to take you to a card game, crooked casino where you can get a fortune, party (unless you know the person well) or anything else that should ring alarm bells.
Go, and enjoy it.
There are lots of places to visit, things to see.
The people are superb, and very friendly.
The scenery, some of the best in the world.

I agree with Alan.
Have just moved here to Makati after several trips to consider a work offer. Was concerned at first but it is now like any city in the world - each has their negative aspects but focus on the positive.
