A recent survey published by HSBC ranks the United Kingdom 13th out of 14th as a good place for expatriates to raise their children.
Researchers for the bank found that only the United Arab Emirates scored lower than Britain in the survey, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
Spain came out in first place followed by France and Germany.
The study looked at categosuch things as the cost of raising a child, time spent outdoors and time spent studying.
The newspaper says the United Kingdom's low rating in study time surprised many analysts since Britain has some of the most sought-after schools in the world.
"When people are making the decision to go and take up a life abroad, they are usually thinking about their career development," Aaron le Cornu of HSBC Bank told The Daily Telegraph.
But also on their mind, he adds, is how it will affect their children.
