I recently heard an ex-pat say the exchange rate is a "disaster" !
Well, it may not be as good as it used to be but, as I said at the time, my opinion is :
Portugal is still a cheap place to live compared with England.
Where in England can you buy a 4 bed, 2 bath, detached house with 1,000m2 of land and a swimming pool for less than €200,000 ?
Also, day to day living is far cheaper ;
Bread, eggs, vegetables, salads, wine, beer all at a fraction of UK prices.
A meal of starter, main course, wine and coffee at €5 has to be a bargain !

And as a bonus you get to live in one of the most unspoilt, under-populated gems in Europe ! Even a flight back to blighty (if you feel the need) is a fiver !

I know that one-offs like white goods and cars are more but all in all I think it's the best "deal" I've ever done !
