Floorball
HSK Den Haag
The Hague
Website: http://www.hskdenhaag.nl

Do you want to join one of the fastest-growing sports in the Netherlands? Do you want to play this in The Hague, in a club comprised of more than 17 nationalities in the 15 to 50 age group? If your answer is yes to both, then playing floorball at HSK Den Haag may be the best decision you will make today. Floorball (or, as it is sometimes called, unihockey, innebandy or salibandy) is a fast-moving game played indoor with a floorball stick and a ball. It is a low-contact game, with five players and a goalie playing at the same time. It is an easy game to pick up, as the rules and the techniques are not as complicated as, say, field hockey or ice hockey. HSK has now some five teams playing at all levels in the competition: the first team has been Dutch champions several times, a junior team (16 to 19 year olds) has just started this last season and the club also fields a ladies and mixed team.

We welcome all levels of fitness, especially those with a sense of humour. A typical Hash run is about 6-8km and lasts anywhere from 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Beer stops are a welcome site during a Hash run and in the circle after the run. You can expect singing of rugby songs, silly names and a bit of hoot 'n hollering. We run in and around The Hague, exploring parks, forests and city streets.

A small bunch of new friends from all around the globe with equally international partners and friends. Even after years it remains hard to make local friends in this region, so we ended up finding each other and "do the expat thing", though some of us are actually Dutch. Being the partner of someone from some another country makes us too exotic to the locals, it seems. On top of this, Enschede it not exactly Amsterdam, so places to meet are also more limited once you have passed study age (we are 30 and 40 somethings). So whoever is stranded in Enschede as well and likes to make new German, Bulgarian, Australian, Rumanian, Ecuadorian and Dutch friends, get in touch.
