Part time job and free house in South West France

We are seeking a married couple to look after and take care of our very nice Manor located in the Southwest of France.

The estate – in fact a small wine Chateau – is located about 3 km from the medieval city, Bergerac, about 140 km from Bordeaux. The property has two buildings - a house for the guardian and the main manor building. We are using the manor building as our private holiday home but we also plan to offer it for vacation rentals.

To live in the guardian house, to help us looking after the property in general, assist with the future vacation rental of the manor house, we are seeking a married, e.g. early retired couple. The work at the property is mainly gardening, as well as maintenance of the park, the small forest and the buildings in general. The work amounts to an average of 20 hours per week.

The vineyard (about 4.5 ha AOC red wine) is currently leased to a local wine grower. However, there is 4.5 ha meadow, forest and park as well as a minor garden surrounding the swimming pool area to take care of. There is also external maintenance of the buildings and general maintenance of the pool. All necessary equipment and tools are available at the property.

The guardian house is located beautifully and privately in the large park and has its own, private drive way. The living surface is about 125 m2 with various terraces and garage. The house has recently been renovated and has two bed rooms, sitting room with fireplace, dining room, new kitchen and bathroom. The house – in addition to the fireplace – is electrically heated and has internet connection.

The salary mainly constitutes the free residence (value of €600 Euro per month) as well as a minor monthly salary of €230. Good knowledge in the French language is a very strong advantage.

Bergerac has a nice warm and sunny climate. That’s why a very nice red wine can be produced. The distance from Pomerol is about 45 km. We produce about 25.000 bottles annually at the property. In addition we have figs, walnuts, peaches and apples – but only for household use.

Dordogne, where the medieval city Bergerac is located, is known for its delicious food such as fois gras, truffles, red and white wine, fresh raw materials and the classic French cuisine. It is also a very historical area known for The Three Musketeers, Cyrano de Bergerac, long wars with the UK etc. There are plenty of old Chateaux and castles. Our property – La Closerie – is located only 5 km from the Dordogne River and the area offers multiple recreational facilities such as hiking, mountain biking, golf, canoeing, etc. etc.
