GETTING AROUND IN DENMARK
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Denmark has a highly developed and efficient public transport system. Even though the car is the predominant means of transport, many people use public transport.
Public transport in Greater Copenhagen
* The Greater Copenhagen Authority (HUR) is responsible for the public bus service in the capital region, viz. the Copenhagen and Frederiksberg municipalities, and the Copenhagen, Frederiksborg and Roskilde counties. The yellow buses have become a natural ingredient of the Copenhagen cityscape.
* The S-trains are fast with frequent departures and connect Copenhagen with the suburbs and surrounding towns. Between Copenhagen and towns at further distance regional trains are available
* The Oresund Train connects Copenhagen and Malmo in Sweden with departures every 20 minutes
* In October 2002 the first part of the Copenhagen Metro opened. There are 17 stations so far in different parts of the city, and more stations are being built. The metro connection to the Copenhagen airport is expected to open in 2007.
Public transport in small towns and the provinces
All towns in Denmark with more than 10,000 inhabitants use local buses as a central part of the public transport.
The public transport in sparsely populated areas consists of regional trains and regional bus routes. An example of these bus routes is the X-bus routes connecting large towns in Jutland with only a few stops in between.
AIR
Denmark has 13 airports. The largest ones are Copenhagen Airport A/S and Billund Airport. There is a train service to Copenhagen Airport, and there will also soon be a metro service to the airport.
RAIL
Denmark has a highly developed railway system, and the standard is high. The railways connect the cities and the various parts of the country, and also connect Denmark with other European cities.
CAR RENTAL
Rent a car
You can rent a car for a long or short period. A hire contract is filled out and this should be brought along when driving. Car-hire services operate with different prices depending on for how long you wish to rent the car.
Shared car
It is possible to join a shared car arrangement. You pay a lump sum and subsequently pay according to your use of the car. |
