GETTING THERE

The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport ( DFW ) ( +1 972 574 8888/ http://www.dfwairport.com ), located 16 miles from downtown Dallas, grades as the third largest airport in the world in size. Its girth is so immense it spills into the cities of Euless, Grapevine, Irving and Coppell, making it larger than the island of Manhattan. Featuring four terminals and 137 boarding gates it provides non-stop service to more than 160 cities around the globe. The following major airlines float on and off its seven runways:

The Trinity Railway Express ( TRE ) ( +1 877 657 0146/ http://www.trinityrailwayexpress.org ) expeditiously avoids downtown traffic congestion making it a popular choice with arriving passengers. Free shuttle busses cart passengers from the airport to the railway's CentrePort Terminal. One-way fares to stations to the east of the airport cost USD2.25, while stations to the west a mere USD1.25. Travel to downtown takes 30 minutes. TRE operates M-F 5:30a-12:15a and Sa 6:15a-11:39p.
Bus service ( +1 214 979 1111/ http://www.dart.org ) ferries in and out of the airport's North and South Shuttle parking lots. The 202 Express services the north lot and ultimately deposits passengers at downtown Dallas's West Transfer Center for USD2.25. Bus 409 services the south lot and heads into Dallas stopping at the Cityplace Center where you can transfer to the DART system and head into downtown.
Passengers can choose from two shuttle van services. The Yellow Checker Shuttle, or locally known at "The Airporter" ( +1 817 215 8600/ http://www.the-T.com/airporter.html ), services most downtown Dallas hotels. Adults are charged USD15, and kids under 12 USD7. Shuttles exit the airport about every 30 minutes. Supershuttle ( +1 800 258 3826/ http://www.supershuttle.com ) operates around the clock, seven days a week. Downtown Dallas fares range from USD15-USD20, while destinations to Fort Worth fall between USD16-USD24.
Taxis can be located on the upper level of each terminal. Fares to Dallas average USD38 and Fort Worth USD43. Depending on traffic rides to downtown Dallas usually last 30-40 minutes. Some of the taxi companies include:

Love Field is but seven miles from downtown Dallas.
By Train
Amtrak ( +1 800 872 7245/ http://www.Amtrak.com ) deposits passengers on a daily basis via the Texas Eagle line originating out of Chicago. The downtown train station is located at 400 Houston Street.
By Bus

By Car
Dallas is surrounded by a massive network of interstate highways lending it easy accessibility. Interstate 30 funnels into downtown from the northeast, while Interstate 20 approaches from both the east and west. Interstate 45 jabs into Dallas from Houston in a southeast direction, and Interstate 35 slices past the city from the north and south.

DART - Dallas Area Rapid Transit
The extensive network of DART Rail, Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and bus services moves more than 200,000 passengers per day across Dallas' 700-square-mile service area. DART also serves DFW International Airport and Fort Worth via the TRE.
The DART Rail System provides fast, convenient service to work, shopping and entertainment destinations in Dallas, Garland, Plano and Richardson. Plus, our TRE commuter line links DART customers to DFW International Airport and downtown Fort Worth(only an hour away by TRE). Free parking is available at most rail stations, and all are served by DART bus routes specially timed to make transfers between buses and trains quick and easy.
Whether you're headed to a concert, a Dallas Mavericks or a Dallas Stars showdown, ride the TRE to all Monday through Saturday events at American Airlines Center. Or ride DART Rail to West End Station and catch the free special events shuttle bus.
The TRE gets you to and from DFW International Airport for a fraction of the cost of taxi fare or long-term parking. Just take it to CentrePort/DFW Airport Station and transfer to the DFW Airport bus serving airline terminals. Airport buses meet all trains, departing every 15 minutes Monday through Saturday. There is no Sunday service. Airport bus service between the rail station and the airport terminals is free.
DART operates local and express bus routes serving Addison, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Dallas, Farmers Branch, Garland, Glenn Heights, Highland Park, Irving, Richardson, Rowlett, Plano and University Park.

$2.50 for Local bus and rail, which includes local bus, DART Rail and TRE service in Dallas County. $4.50 for Premium bus and rail, which includes express bus service and TRE service to DFW Airport and Fort Worth.
DART offers two basic, one-way fares:
$1.25 for Local bus and rail service
$2.25 for Premium service, which includes express bus service between downtown Dallas and free park & ride facilities in Addison, Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Glenn Heights, Irving, Plano and Rowlett.
TRE fares are in two zones:
$1.25 one-way to all stops between downtown Dallas and West Irving Station.
$2.25 between stations in Dallas County and Tarrant County.

Taxis

Trolley Busses
The historic M-Line Streetcar is FREE! The M-Line Streetcar offers you a ride down McKinney Avenue, within walking distance of the Dallas Museum of Art. Whether you're eating lunch, shopping, browsing art or making a bus or rail connection, the M-Line takes you there!
M-Line service operates 7 days a week every 15 minutes during peak and lunch hours, every half hour off-peak hours and weekends between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. Saturdays, and 12:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
Bicycles
There are 14 separate bike trails that fan throughout the Dallas/Forth Worth area, but are better suited for leisurely rides along lakes than for commuting to specific destinations, especially in downtown. If you ride in downtown look for white-and-blue designated bike route signs. |
