GETTING AROUND CLEVELAND

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) provides public transportation in the City of Cleveland and 58 surrounding municipalities, and ranks among the nation's largest transportation systems. RTA's public transportation system consists of both bus and rapid transit service with 768 buses running 102 routes, with a convenient downtown loop bus system, and four rapid transit lines; Red, Blue, Green and Waterfront Lines, taking riders to virtually any destination throughout Greater Cleveland. Fares are $1.50 each way.

For a quick, convenient ride between Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and downtown Cleveland use the Red Line. It's simple to catch and its fast (just 22 minutes) and inexpensive (only $1.50 one way). RTA's airport station is located on the lower level of the Terminal Complex. To reach the rapid transit line just take the elevators or escalators near the center of the ticketing and Baggage Claim Levels. From Monday through Saturday the Red Line operates every 15 minutes from 4:30 a.m until 12:59 a.m. On Sunday, the rapid operates until 9:55 p.m. after that you can take the RTA 66S shuttle-bus that departs from the ticketing level until 1:00 p.m. The 66S airport shuttle-bus departs Cleveland Hopkins Airport from the upper level area every half-hour.

The Waterfront Line provides fast and easy travel throughout downtown Cleveland. Convention delegates can travel quickly and economically from downtown hotels, meeting facilities and major shopping venues to Tower City Center, Flats Entertainment District, Cleveland Browns Stadium and North Coast Harbor attractions.

You don't need a car downtown, but it's convenient to have one if you'd really like to explore. The cost of taxis will negate what you save by not renting, and a 20- or 30-minute wait for a summoned cab is common, especially on evenings and weekends. Although you can use the RTA rail system to travel between downtown and University Circle, driving is the easiest way to go.

If you still want to use a cab, try Yellow Cab Company of Cleveland (tel. 216/623-1500) or Ace Taxi Service (tel. 216/361-4700). The flag drops at $1.80 and it's $1.60 per mile thereafter.
