Tango weekend courses in Herceg Novi

Tango Montenegro are hosting intensive weekend tango courses in Herceg Novi, taught by Ivan Jovanovic & Bojana Brajovic. The courses will be repeated every two weeks and will consist of day and evening classes and evening milongas.

NIGHTLIFE IN MONTENEGRO

GENERAL

Cinemas stay open until 11 pm, restaurants until midnight and nightclubs until 4 or 5 am. There are nightclubs and discos in the major towns and cities.

Podgorica is, everyone will admit, one of the towns with the best nightlife in this part of Europe. With a great number of cafes, pubs and restaurants which, for most part of the day, are filled with young people, gives an impression of a place in which fun never stops.

Among the most famous in a mere 300 m stretch are: Greenwich, Buddha Bar, Camelot, Montanaro jazz, Grand café, Fontana, Cuba Libre, Corto malteze, Intercity, Rio grande, Culto, Mr.Good, Soul II Soul, Zulu, Latino bar, Kandy bar, Pub 111, Piccadilly, Bourbon and Torzo.

FOOD & DINING IN MONTENEGRO

GENERAL

Cuisine varies greatly from one region to another. Table service is usual in hotel restaurants. Bars and cafes have counter and table service. Most places serving alcohol close by 10 pm.

National specialties

Kacamak – is a mushy, strong meal which made of wheat, buckwheat, barley, or corn flour and which is being served with cheese and sour milk. Wet “kacamak” is called the one to which the cheese is added, or “kajmak” and which is being stirred for a long time with a special wooden spoon.

Cicvara – with this meal usually white cooked potato and sour milk are being served. Young cow’s cheese or “kajmak” are mixed with flour while the grease is released. It is a meal of high energetic value, of pleasant taste – it literarily melts in your mouth.

"Popara" – with mixing of bread with milk, oil and cheese you get an interesting and cheap meal which is deeply seated in the Montenegrin cuisine.

Cooked potato – is an easy and favourite meal which is accompanied with cheese and sour cabbage.

Thick soups – thick soups in Montenegro are usually prepared with noodles, potato or vegetables.

"Rastan" – a strong meal made of local vegetable from the family of cabbages, it is cooked with white potato and with a lot of spices.

"Japraci" – an extremely rich and nourishing meal.

Montenegrin lamb in milk – is a real specialty. From about 2 kg of meat which are being cooked in domestic milk with the addition of spices and potato. This meal is usually prepared during some solemn occasions.

Sausage – is prepared by drying, most often in Njegusi, with a special technique. It is extremely tasty and strong.

Prsuta (smoked ham) – most famous “prsut”, the one from Njegusi, excels with quality even comparable to the Italian producers.

Popeci from Podgorica – interesting meal: in a steak made from veal’s meat you roll in a piece of cheese or old “kajmak” and a piece of “prsut”. Then you fry that roll in deep oil, and you get a meal of rich interior and of tasteful and crunchy exterior.

The food from the grill – Montenegrins are known as great lovers of the grill; especially the tasty “cevapi” (kebab) and grilled meat patty which goes well with onion.

National drinks

Nikšicko beer.

Grape brandy or rakija.

SHOPPING IN MONTENEGRO

General

Town markets sell fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat and fish, as well as cheap clothing and household goods. Herceg Novi's old town is renowned for its jewellery shops and artists' galleries. Podgorica has a wide range of clothes shops and shopping centres.

Shopping hours

Mon-Fri 0900-2100, Sat 0800-1500 (many shops are open all day Sat). Grocery stores open at 0600. Shops in tourist resorts often stay open until midnight in high season.

Banking hours

Mon-Fri 0800-1900 and Sat 0800-1300.

Currency

The official currency in Montenegro is the Euro. Euro (&Euro;) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of &Euro;500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in denominations of &Euro;2 and 1, and 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 cents.

Currency exchange

Money should be exchanged through official exchange offices and banks only.

Credit & debit cards

International credit and debit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club and Maestro are accepted, but cash may be necessary for some payments. Some ATMS accept Visa or Mastercard, but few accept international debit cards.

Traveller's cheques

Although acceptable in theory, in practice these can be very hard to exchange. It is advisable to take cash and credit or debit cards.

Currency restrictions

All visitors must complete the customs currency declaration form upon arrival and declare (including traveller's cheques) money in excess of &Euro;2000. Any currency not declared on the form can be confiscated when leaving the country.
