Dear all,
Visited UAE a few times holiday & on business and have managed to get interview for a pretty good job based in Dubai/Abu Dhabi. Many questions about stuff so answers would help make the decision for me, my lady and our three spaniels.
1/ Package could include company provided accomodation, I think they have somewhere in the Springs available for me. I know this is a nice place BUT can I take my dogs to a company provided house/villa ? Is it better I should take rent allowance and find somewhere to rent of my own which will take pets ? My lady is really hung up on the dog issues, advice needed.
2/ I should ask them about the length of time the contract of employment is for Yes/No. Is 3 years standard or what, does longer contract means more money.....haven't a clue on this. Should I look to get based in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, which is best emirate for us to settle in.
3/ We are not married. How do the locals react to co-habiting? We're both caucasians from UK, in our 40's. Normal types, I am rugby playing Scot, lady is yoga teaching super babe.
4/ In the salary package, do I need to make sure that they include for medical insurance ( e.g. BUPA ) or is that standard offer.
5/ I guess we will need to bank locally, which is best for telephone transactions, been used to that in UK so can I expect the same.
6/ Dog stuff. Whats the reaction to walking dogs in the parks, beaches or is this not allowed. Suggestions. Are boarding kennels for the dogs available.
7/ What is the standard offer on repat leave/ ticket for me and frequency and do they include my lady back to UK or what should I expect.
8/ Money. What is the cost of living, (company offers utilities paid which I guess means the salary will be lower is this good/bad). Is it similiar to UK for prices etc.
9/ Company offer car in the package, does this mean I have a tax issue on this.
10/ Lady stuff. Dubai accepts western dress/fashion, what about Abu Dhabi ? Do ladies drive unaccompanied in the emirates ?
Any other stuff that you thinks I will need to know which will help clear the confusion/excitement about living and working in the UAE.
