One more quick question as I get ready for the move to Penang next week - it doesn't look like Amazon.com delivers to Malaysia. Does anyone know an online store for buying books and cd's that will ship to Malaysia?
Is there a Malaysian online store for books? I'm afraid I'll read through the books I'm shipping in no time and I have a lot of favorite American authors.

Thanks.

Hi Maggie,

I haven't yet found and online store for buying books here in Penang (amazon will ship, but the postage is a lot!). However there are good bookshops on the island that sell all the popular books, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding anything you want (I'm sure they'll order in any of the lesser known authors for you).

The average paper backs sell for about 35-70 RM (about 5-10 UK stirling)

As for CD shops, there is a tower records here (Gurney Plaza). There are so many pirate CD shops around that the genuine music stores struggle to compete! That tends to mean most of the music on offer is the latest pop groups, but tower has a good range and could probably get hold of most stuff.

Hope that helps,

James

Maggie, you can always buy your favorite books from Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com or borders.com and use an international shipping company like Shipito. I used them in the past after I heard they had discounted international prices. My friend in HK swears by them an now, I do too!

They ship to Malaysia and I always buy books from Amazon but as others mentioned the shipping cost is expensive.

I obtained $95 of books 3 days ago and the total became $135.

Take a look at betterworld.com and abebooks.com . Betterworld sells used and new books and their shipment cost is as cheap as $4/book. However the shipping time and reliability is not as good as you would expect. Their cheap shipment option is more suitable for used books.

omshanti, how we can use shipito for Amazon orders? Amazon allows you to select them?

Thanks
