Hello everyone. I am looking for a job as an English teacher in Penang. Does anyone have any suggestions or leads? I would be available to move there in June 2006.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried other internet forums such as:

http://www.eslcafe.com

Not a lot of Malaysia specific info, but look under "General Asia Forum", see what you find, and try posting there. Or try here for more general info and links:

http://www.geocities.com/wix99/teachtaiwan.html

The reason there is so little info on Malaysia specifically (which I hope you already know!), is because many Malays have the same or better college and English qualifications than your average Expat. There is simply no need for hiring fresh graduate Aussie backpackers in a country where English is already spoken and advanced and international degrees are fairly common among the locals.

Good luck! Sounds like we want to end up in the same place, somehow...

Hi again. Thanks to you both for your help. Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Well, I haven't given up yet. I've got another possibility up my sleeve, and just need some time to look into it.

Bye for now.

Can Man

If you've a TEFL cert (must), 2 year's experience (almost a must) and are over 26 (must), try

www.els.edu - international site, but search for Malaysia. They have 1 school in Penang employing foreigners, starts at RM2800 I believe

www.britishcouncil.org.my - will employ non-Brits, might offer part-time work too but perhaps not a work permit if you go that route - RM6000+ full-time

www.cfbt.com - some sort of charity/agency sending teachers all over Malaysia. I think they have 1 job going in Penang now. RM4500

That's the limit of my knowledge, left teaching now :)

may be you can check with the principals of the International Schools here.... they may want to consider if you meet their requirements.

Good Luck

Would anybody have leads where a non-native English speaker can find a teaching job in Penang?

Thanks a lot.
