Marriage at the Registrar's Office

a. Both of you must give notice of marriage in the prescribed form to the Registrar of Marriage of your marriage district in which you have been resident at least seven (7) days before the giving of such notice.

I'm getting a bit confused here, hope someone can help me clarify it...

Do these 7 days apply for the application or for the registration itself?

I've submitted my marriage application in Putrajaya last month, everything good here, i was in Malaysia for over 7 days already. Registration day is for next week, but I have to exit the country before cause my visa is going to expire.

Is it ok if I leave the country before the registration day? Or are they going to make my life hard for this?

Really appreciate help.

I think you better call and check with them today if you can as the best people to answer this is them....you may get right or wrong answers possibly here on this esp. given you are short on time mate..

Replying to myself, and after checking with the JPN, the 7 days are only required prior to the application. Once application is done, I'm free to go in and out as I wish.

Good, my future wife is not going to kill me for screwing up the registration day then Very Happy haha

I want to get married in Penang. I am an Australian citizen marrying a malaysian citizen.

i have a single status letter, endorsed by the Australian Dept of Foreign Affairs, and the malaysian high commission in Canberra. Do I need to take it to putrajaya for further endorsement?

Also, are any of you guys totally frustrated when dealing with the malaysian bureaucracy? I travel alot for work and have some experience in other countries, and I have to say the Malaysian bureaucracy is probably the most inefficient and slow to deal with.

Question... If I marry in a church, do I have to still apply for the notice after 7 days and all that? Or do I just show up at the church, get my vows solemnised by the pastor? Would he then do everything else? Or do I still have to go put in applications and stuff? Please help! Thanks!

Hi,

Hope someone can clear up something for me.

I am getting married in Penang next year. We are both British and divorced and I know that I need to get our Decree Absolute documents 'legalised' at the Foreign Office in London before taking them to the Malaysian High Commission but I am unclear as to whether I also need an affidavit stating that we are free to marry. I would have thought that the Decree Absolue document was adequate. I have tried contacting the Malaysian Consul in London by Email and phone but they do not reply to Emails and do not answer telephones.

Grateful for any advice

Any other way if this part can be skipped ?
