after reading the latest article in the Star Sun newspaper about the rise
of the cost for importing the Foreign Maids , and all the fees it involves.
I guess the time has come for the lazy women to start moving thier ass
a bit and Clean the house themselvs rather then relying on the maids
to do so |

Nemo, whats wrong with this:
6. Dont get a good looking young maid as she will seduce husbands/neighbours/prance around in underwear etc etc

i completely agree with this, in theory.
in the real world it hardly works that way. that is why someone with good people skills - those who manages to control other people (the maids and clerks fo example) and make them do what they are supposed (commonly called managers) to do are paid much higher than those who have technical skills

Being paid a monthly wage does not mean that the money is earnt just by doing whatever things the maid has been told to do. Being paid a monthly wage means that she is paid to work to the benefit of her employer every of her working hours during that month.
If a maid has finished her allotted work then it is expected that she inspect the house for other items which need care and attention. This may mean polishing silverware, weeding gardens, cleaning drains, tidying and ordering the pantry or just polishing the shoes of her employer. Likewise, if there are younger children in the house, the maid should take it upon herself to teach reading, writing and arithmetic.
This is no different to the universal expectation that a clerk answers the phone when the receptionist is unavailable, that a secretary files paperwork if the clerk is on sick leave, that the underused engineer undertakes proactive maintenance, or that the junior manager types his own letters if he has the time to do so. |

I have to add that we have had our Indonesian maid now for 3 1/2 years and she is GREAT. She knew no English when she came. She now speaks it fluently. She is also helping other Indonesians learn English by teaching them two hours a week. This is with my blessing. I trust her completely. She has been left in charge of the house with 5 cats and 5 dogs for extended holidays we have taken. She eats what we eat but also eats some of own choice of food. I take her shopping with me some of the time. She has taken two one month vacations back to Indonesia whilst in our employ.
She is intelligent and a little head strong but I absolutely without a doubt know that she would not run away. She would tell me if she wanted to go. She has been saving her own money and has bought two parcels of land in Indonesia whilst in our employ. She is now saving to build a house. She has access to her own money and been left in the house with access to money and jewelry with nothing ever missing.
There is a bond of affection between us and her at this point and I will hate to see her decide to go home to stay. We treat as we would want to be treated and she helped us to find a maid for our daughter. This maid has followed our daughter from Indonesia to the Philippines and will continue to work for my daughter wherever she is posted next.
So you see - there are very good maids out there but unfortunately it is the luck of the draw....... |

Hi Ranger,
I think your last sentence summarize this whole topic.
There are some good ones and some bad ones.
The worst one could do is to generalize, and simply rely on the agency to find the great one - they should be part of the process from the start! |
