If I want to ask a general question to the Malaysian immigration department but unfortunately I am calling from Australia and I only found their general number 03-88801000 at the bottom of the website. Does anyone know if they have an email address? or the relevant section of the immi dept for my query:
I just want to find out if a child of an Australian Citizen with a Malaysian birth certificate requires a visa to study and live in Malaysia. The mother is a Malaysian citizen.
If you are Australian, do you know if I dial 0011 60 3 88801000 ie without the 0 before the 03?
Can anyone help me?
Thanks |

Hi Mate
Yes omit the 0 before the 3. A word of advice, its Ramadan over here until end of Sept, so try to ring before 11am as it all slows down after that time and be very patient.
Also that topic has had some exposure already, read the forum
Cheers

Hi mate,
I am not sure if this help. I am a Malaysian and My husband is a German. My children are not Malaysians, and they both need visas to study in Malaysia International schools.
A word of caution, very few of them speak English, your wife may have to speak to them in Bahasa Malaysia and it is not easy at all to get connected because hardly anyone answers the phone.

Hi
I am a UK citizen who has been offered a teaching post in Malaysia. What is the procedure for procuring the employment pass? Can i enter as a tourist and then have the school convert it? Or do I have to be outide the country to obtain the employment pass?
Much appreciated! Thanks... |

Hi Phil,
Thanks for your reply. What my employer wishes me to do is to enter on a social visit pass and then work while they apply for the employment pass. I am concerned, as this would mean working without the correct visa - althouhgh it does seem that for many this is standard procedure...
What do you think?
Thanks!

Hi Boston,
Technically you would be working illegally and could be deported if (and its a big if) immigration find out.
I would say it was your decision as to whether you think that this is an acceptable risk or not. The application for the EP should only take a week or so but in my case took longer - about a month.
You probably wont have any trouble but it would be better if your employer could sort things out before you arrive.
Good luck and enjoy your time in Malaysia.
Regards,
Phil |

Hi Phil,
Exactly what I was thinking - I know the risk is minimal, but I just don't want to take the chance.
Thanks for your help! |

Hi again Phil,
Did you apply for your EP from outside Malaysia? Or were you there already? Thanks again!

Hi Boston,
The company applied for me when I was already here, as I came a month early to settle the family in before I started work
