After reading through various postings, it seems that PR would only be entertained if the applicant is married to a local person? what happens to the single status applicant which can benefit the country in other ways?
I am a citizen of other countries and was never asked if I had a local partner.... Speaking BM and education proof, yes I agree but having to marry a local, no I disagree, and that is why you have so many case of foreigners running away from their obligations as one said after some years.
So my question really is "Can u apply and obtain PR" if ur single?
Cheers

The problem isn't CAN you apply but rather WHAT is the real criteria for qualifying? I know several french gentlemen in KL who are businessmen and all have PR...not all of them are married to "locals" so...your guess is as good as mine.
Its one of those "hush hush" problems the Home Ministry seems to have when it comes to being transparent or being open about...they rather not. |

This may or may not be true but it certainly does not apply to all who are married to locals, only some - those with cable as they say |

Why interview conduct in Police station not in immigration Dept? |

Hi,
May I suggest you call the police station that he told you to go and check on the authenticity of the visit and also call the immigration office to check if this is a normal procedure. I assumed you have asked for his name? By the way, interview on a Sunday? They don't even work office hour during Puasa, it sounds so fishy.

It is a guideline but good luck because its a shambolic system; you don't hear from them when you expect them to reply, they don't give you reasons why your application was turned down and the statistics the home office provides is never accurate as to how many got PR, what nationality, what religion, etc... |

Interesting posting in the local rag yesterday as follows by Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar:
A special task force has been formed to handle the delayed pile of Entry Permit applications.... 5880 at the Ministry and 20000 at the NRD.... ( you'll be waiting for another decade me think)
BUt now comes the best part:
Foreign man married to local can be considered for PR status only after 10 years
Foreign woman married to local can be considered for PR status after 5 years????
Nothing about PR status for single foreigner...
So there u are, Malaysian democracy for you
