Thanks, all. My daughter and I did went around GIS back in Apri but will probably do it again and go through the whole process formally towards the end of the year, when we are next in town. I would think that it is most probably be either Alice Smith or GIS.
Thank you. |

|

Hi all
We've just selected a school for our two kids (5 and 7 respectively) and so have some relevant recent experience if any one is interested.
All the school share some common characteristics: They start really early, they are all very expensive (RM7,000 a term minimum ~ STG 1,000) plus budget in another 2 terms at the start to cover deposits and materials and so on... and they are all nearly always full in the early level classes.
Basically you can pin down your choices by asking any of the following two questions:
1. Which school system to do want?
> English: Garden International School in Month Kiara is best IMO
> North American: Mont Kiara International School is best IMO
> "International": KL International School in Ampang is best IMO
Note that the schooling system is important as each school will give priority to students from the same kind of school before! So if you are coming from the UK, then one of the UK curriculum schools is 'easier' to get into as preference is given to the 'home' system as its easier on the child in question.
2. Where do you have to live?
This is a double edged question since most families I spoke to got a school place first and only then looked for a place to live nearby. MK and Ampang and the surrounding areas are therefore full of expats
Someone mentioned the traffic in KL is mad, and it really is not pleasant for anyone, least of all a child, to sit for 1 hour each day going to school and back on a bus (though many do just that). Certainly, we were trying to avoid this at all costs for our two, admittedly young, kids.
However, do check the schools out personally, we really liked some of the other schools like Alice Smith and so on and in the end its a matter of taste and preference. We took 10 days out to visit every school we were interested in and it really helped us decide in the end (we picked and got into GIS)
Good luck.

Which lnternational Schools with American cirriculum can we consider if the annual budget is 25,000 RM? Our daughter is 6 years old and will be an incoming Grade 1.
Your thoughts please. Thank you very much. |

Kinabalu International School (KIS) doesnt have a good rep out in sabah...standards of teaching are not as good as in KL or Singapore and the school is set up on a really small campus.
Not recommended though they follow the british system |

I havent been out to langkawi very recently but my understanding is there was very limited options in Langkawi for expats as far as an "international school" was concerned...the closest (or rather the better schools nearby to Langkawi) are in Penang.
Melaka? I can't advise you on this but perhaps someone else on the forums can assist... |

Below are the two International School That I know about in Malacca. I was planning to apply for my sons few year ago but the rate was really scaringly high. But if one of you are Malaysian, you can send them to local school.
Malacca Expetriate School - 06-3154970- Located near Klebang Beach.
Malacca International School - 06-2862573- LOcated in down town area.
Good Luck. |

Hello out there,
We are currently living in Australia but may be moving in KL in February. We have a 9 year old and a 12 year old. Does anyone have thoughts on good schools over there? We are all ears! Thanks |
