We applied under the old rule (5 years visa) and just received the approval from the Malaysian govt. Our agent said min of 90 days of insurance will be enough to satisfy the visa requirement. Is it true? Initially we may not spend a long time in Malaysia but I guess after we have the visa, we can buy another medical insurance locally in Malaysia which covers a longer period of time. Any advice? Thanks.

I may suggest you contact ING as they have office worldwide. I had to switch over when I came from Australia as my Oz premiums were getting too high living as an expat overseas.
Any further info pm me

Nothing could stop you from discontinuing your medical insurance even if you've signed up for a year. Only thing is some ins companies want you to pay the year's premium upfront.
Also depending on your age, next time round you might be older and having some health issues and that could up your premiums.Ins premium rates go according to age and health conditions at time of application/renewal.
Local ones are cheaper eg AIA etc. Intl Ins are more costly.

Thanks for the advice. Also our agent said no medical report is required for the old scheme applicant. Is it true?

Not true. Be careful of agents who tell you all the short cuts and not following the rules. They have nothing to lose once they get your money and only you became the loser.
I had to produce one under the old scheme
Anyways you can't apply under the 'old scheme' now as the new one has kicked in a few months ago.
Under the new scheme, you do not need a sponsor.
Why don't you just do the application yourself or if need help have AlloExpat here do it for you :?:

Hi Ibkitko,

Yes.. Penny is right!! You do need a medical report and insurance policy coverage during your stay in Malaysia.

However, your medical check-up have to be done locally in Malaysia and also you need to have a medical insurance covered by insurance companies incoporated locally. such as ING or AIA Malaysia.

Cheers!!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, we have already paid the agent and are scheduled to do the landing visit (letter of approval received) this coming Sunday. If the worse comes to the worst, we can do the medical report in KL. But that would mean a total change of our schedule as we have booked a flight back on 22nd.

How long will it take for the visa to come through from the Immigration?
We are scheduled to visit them on Tue, and we have Monday to do the medical report if necessary....

'letter of approval'...is this the Conditional Approval :?:
Normally that's what you get until you produce proofs of the FD, the Medical Report and Medical Insurance. Then Immig will issue the Long Term visa. This normally takes 30 working days.
Just a suggestion: To save you time, get the insurance company who has their own panel doctors. They do the medical for the insurance part and the medical is recognized as proof. Find out from the Dr if they'll do a Fasting Lipid blood test, if it's needed which is required normally...when you go best fast from midnight as they normally do a fasting blood lipid test in the morning to check your levels of different cholesterols etc.

After you got your conditional approval letter, you will need to come to Malaysia for your visa endorsement.

When arrived in Malaysian immigration department, you will have to submit the FD cert, Malaysian insuranse policy and the medical report from hospitals in Malaysia.

This is the information i have and hope that it helps.

Cheers!!

It's strange that there appears to be a requirement for a medical examination in addition to obtaining medical insurance from a local insurance company. This is contrary to the offical website (http://mm2h.motour.gov.my) where there is no requirement for a medical exam.

Amienleo: can you confirm that this is a requirement for new MM2H applicants? What kind of exam is required & by whom? Thanks.
