Malaysia is the only country in the world that practices such segregation. You need to see it to believe it.In the Petronas Towers where I work, you hardly see any indian or chinese occupying sensitive posts. The vast majority of the workers are the so-called Bumis. It's disgusting |

Every country in the world did imposse some sort of limitation on the minorities, though sometimes it's not obvious. Actually i find the practice in Malaysia are quite fascinating. It provided an equality with no one races control too much of everything. Malays were given a special privileges while the other minorities still retain basic rights and many privileges to a lesser extent. this in turn provide racial harmonies. The malays obviously couldn't keep up with the Chinese in many areas. If the Chinese were given the free reign, they would've overshadowed the natives and you can bet that the natives would be extremely agitate by that. then, there will be racial tension and then..... you can guess yourself. This is the practice of reigning the fast and pushing the slow. both move together with no one overtaken another. |

Before the start of NEP, the chinese businessmen, namely distributors/stockist used to only deal with chinese, and punish the non-chinese, by charging them more.
Affirmative action is good to a certain extent. Malaysia and south africa must be the only 2 countries that practises it for a majority ethnic group.
But affirmative action in malaysia has gone wrong. Give a bumi 7% discount to buy a multi-million bungalow. Don't give a poor chinese any discount to buy a cheap flat.
Segegration is bad
Mahathir started this "Malays-only community flat" and such nonsense.
"Practise NEP" in academics. Don't give smart chinese scholarships.
Malaysians were united before. More and more malays are treating non-malays as the enemy for their non-progressiveness.

Ok, this is scary.
How do Canadians fit in to this quagmire? Does our skin tone give us away? Will I have to get an extreme tan?
I am over 50 and am a certified Person Trainer. I specialize in the 40+ crowd although can train any one over 16. Would I be able to get work in Johor? Are they as stuck-up about hiring anyone over 35 like in S'pore?
Have also taught ESL in Sg, but not sure it is viable in JB. From what I have heard in the forums it is something not well received. |
