Update after trip to Putrajaya. First pitfall, make sure the damn taxi drops you at the right place. Or drive there yourself!
The procedure here was pretty straightforward apart from one thing. I already had all my documents listed in the last post so the lady (who spoke good English) just went through and checked them. However, because my job title is Director they apparently now need some extra information about the company and who the board of directors are!
Luckily I am able to email that part to them and then the next step is that the application takes a month to approve. If it does get approved I can then take the approval letter to Wangsa Maju to apply for the license...
Another update if and when I get my approval letter... |

I still haven't got the approval letter - it's nearly 3 months now so the JPJ are not really meeting their SLA which is to issue it within a month...

I guess it is because the translation in English of your UK license was not properly done |

I guess they will ask you to submit it again so their stats don't get screwed |

Shardy - any updates?
We're facing some major issues trying to get my husband's licence (US - so "non-auto" conversion). We mailed the application and documents sometime in December, they sent a letter back a month later saying that they needed additional information about the company which we immediately sent out.
We finally heard from them yesterday and it was a rejection letter. The reason? He is not on the Director's List. That's some kind of odd double standard where Directors can drive but others can't.
He's okay with taking the test but does anyone have any experience with that? I'm quite worried about how he'll fit in a Kancil (if they still do driving tests with those)! |

Ok well it seems some people have luck and some don't. For myself I can't be bothered getting the MY license; I have been driving here for 7 years now on my Oz license, been stopped a few times, never had a problem as I drive my OWN car registered in my name, and the insurance people are quite cool with it.
BUT if u want to drive a company car, then u have no choice but to get that MY license....
1 of my Oz mate, simply had his Oz license translated "sigh sigh" by our Oz consulate, then filled the forms, photos, work permit copies etc etc, and gave it to his Malaysian HR department. He had his MY license issued within 3 days... Moral of the story: have some1 from ur Malaysian company deal with the authority..
Cheers

Gosh, the procedure seems to be way more complex nowadays. Back in the days, I paid 50 or 100 RM a guy to do that for me... He was collecting my documents, brining them to JPJ, paid on my behalf 30 RM per year, and a few days later was back with my license... And Voila! |
