Hi, I’m Vincent Morelli, a documentary film-maker from New Orleans. I'm working on a new project with the help of National Geographic -- a film about Kenyans who’ve been raised in the United States. Right now, we’re looking for young people to interview and be a part of the project. (the Association of Kenyan Professionals in Atlanta, Stephen Ndiritu, is already helping us find participants as well.) The film focuses on comparing American and Kenyan cultural values in young people – not just a comparison of music and sports, but historic, educational, artistic, legal and political values. And we’re looking at these through the eyes of young people – their perspectives and their attitudes.
Specifically, we’re looking for 3 Kenyan males, roughly aged 14 to 22, who have grown up in the U.S. Candidates should have been born in Kenya but raised (since age 4 or 5) in the us, and have Americanized values and ideals. Since I favor urban contexts in my work, we would lean toward candidates from the inner-city, street-wise, maybe from single parent homes and lower or lower middle class. But these aren’t requirements. More important are the engaging qualities and “Americanness” of the candidates. We want a U.S. audience to identify with them so any cultural differences will be highlighted.
Thanks for your help.
