JORDAN SCUBA DIVING : Scuba Diving in Jordan Guide
Although only 10k of coastline, Jordan’s marine park boasts some superb easy reef diving with a large variety of species, some quite different from neighboring Egypt; Frogfish, seahorses, sharron shrimp , albino morays , snake eels and a wide variety of nudibranchs are to be found. ,

Easy and sheltered shore access provides some stunning night time encounters; frogfish, seahorses, a large variety of shrimps, slipper lobsters, anemone crabs and burrowing anemones, and free swimming snake eels can all be found in the shallow sandy expanse leading out to the reefs, while the reefs themselves are home to crinoids, sponges and featherstars.
Photo:
Superb for close up and macro with lots of unusual species to film. Clear calm conditions make photography easy, however as most of the dives are from the shore, great care must be taken to avoid sand and grit contaminating O ring; load your camera’s in a sterile environment, and keep it in a large plastic bag until underwater; remove bag during the dive and replace before exiting;wash/ rinse as soon as possible after there dive. Hire and some spares available locally.
Reef
These are generally made up of hard corals, with some outcrops of soft corals and the occasional fans; Not as dramatic as those in the Red Sea (Jordan is in the Gulf of AQUABA), and some areas have suffered from rubbish dumping. The influence of sandy beaches seems to have had an effect on the reefs.
Wreck
THE CEDAR PRIDE (see SPORTEXTREME.COM feature) was sunk as a diving attraction many years ago, and is one of the best locations to see soft corals in large proportions and size. An old anti aircraft tank has also been sunk to benefit divers.

"Dive Aqaba is an owner-opererated PADI school soon to become a 5star outfit. They are friendly, excellent value for your hard earned money and what is nice to see, have the latest brand new kit. It was like diving with a family: didn't want to go home."

"Just had a 10 day visit to Jordan, initially staying in Aqaba for the diving. Went through Dive Aqaba who were absolutely wonderful. They made us very welcome, had wonderful humour, were extremely organised and their kit was first class. They took us to some fantastic diving sites and it was wonderful to not be at a site which was very crowded. I felt that the diving was far more superior at this part of the Red Sea than Egypt."

"After 2 years diving regulary in Aqaba i tried almost every diving center in Aqaba. My absolute favorite is the Yasmena boat with the diving instructor Yazan Alsead and his crew. Its a perfect diving boat, exclusive and very personal, never crowded, no rush, good equipement, extremly friendly and helpful, very professional, good food and a perfect sundeck to relax after the dives. Nice and easy dive sites for beginners, but also ship wreck Cedar pride, a tank and steep cliffs. Prices are reasonable. We always have been there in groups of 3-4 people and had the boat just for us. Its still a little secret, so try it yourself!."

Aquatours
British company offering diving packages to Aqaba. You choose the hotel and dive company you wish to use (from their list) and they book it for you, at a lower cost than if you organise the diving yourself. Apparently they are the Jordan Tourist Board's favoured source of diving information. They offer group discounts for parties of more than 6.
