Hi,

I’m going on holiday to Japan in September and I can’t wait!

I’m looking into getting a Japan rail pass. I was wondering if it is worth paying extra for the first class Japan train travel when I’m out there. Any thoughts?

by first class do you mean the GREEN Pass? if so then i dont think it is worth it. most of the times i ride on the shinkansen there is always a few seats free. anyway you can reserve a seat for a extra few hundred yen when you arrive at the station if you think it might be busy.

I visited Japan in 2005, a trip that worked perfectly for two weeks because the rail pass was so convenient. A normal rail pass will do all that you need.

The main thing to know is that tourists must obtain the rail pass BEFORE arriving in Japan.

Personnaly I don't think you need to take the extra fee, the normal should do. I did for me. If you want to have more info about the pass, I found this website for you that might help
