Hello Over There!
I was just in Mumbai for about a month. I had previously planned a vacation so I returned to my home office. But I'm making plans to head back in October for a couple more months to help with the integration of my department between my home office in San Francisco, CA and our new office in Mumbai. I had a great time when I was there and I am very excited about returning. Last time i stayed in Juhu Beach and I'll either be there, or Bandra, or Powai when I return.
Just hoping I can make some friends to talk with who are similarly situated and maybe do some exploring of India.
Blessings. |

Hi,
I am considering a move to Mumbai, but I wanted to get some background info from someone who has lived/worked there. What are 'normal' living expenses? I have seen apartments on craigslist that look pretty nice from 350 USD to 650 USD --I am live minimally, so I am looking at studios and 1 bedrooms. Could you suggest some living areas of town I should check out?
Secondly, what type of work are you doing in Mumbai? I will definitely be looking for some friends to see the country with. I am really looking forward to this exciting change.
Thanks so much,
Amy |

Sorry i didnt address the question you had raised..
You should find a good place within that budget..if you'd like to cut down on expenses then you also have the option of living in a "paying guest" accomodation..if you are fine with it..
your budget is good enough for you to get a decent (may not be plush) place. But with a 650 budget that is not a constraint too..you will definitely find a fantastic studio..in Bandra and Andheri..
I have heard of places in Colaba etc..can let you know more as we discuss..
BTW, what brings u to India? work? |

Hello Amy,
I have to agree with coolmartian...bandra is the place to look...it also has pretty good hang outs and restaurants. i live in Powai because of my work (finance) but on weekends i usually head to bandra or Juhu which is not far from bandra. if you havent been to bombay moving from the US..it will take a bit of getting used to.but the people are great and plenty of places to explore. I moved here from San Francisco in april and living here happily. it does take some effort to get to know people...especially for me since i tend to be in the office a bit too much. when you get here look me up. my india phone is 9820821576

Hi Mark
The forums really gotten active here..quite an achievement i must say..when i first landed up in Mumbai it was rather too boring and filled with antiquated posts..think we should all revive it...have quite a few friends back in KL through the forum..so why not here.. |

Was looking at apartments in Bandra (W) last week, defintely the place I want to be as my office is in Santacruz, went to a few seafood restuarants in Juhu which were really good, but need lots more info where to go etc., when I'm back (2nd week October), pubs / restuarants / food markets / maid service / driver service / ............. so much to find out !!!!! |
