Hi there,
Good places to live are: Juhu, Bandra west, Pali Hill, Malard, Powai ( but in the north).
I live in Bandra, so i am biased - I love it here. I am a few metres from the beach promenade, 5 minute walk to market, and 10 minutes to the local pub. There are loads of pubs and restaurants as well as shops in Bandra - however the rent is expensive here - depending what you would like to live in. When you get herem call on Mumbai Property exchange/real estate mumbai - they found my place and have organised everything for me.
Good luck |

Hi there,
It is very difficult to compare Mumbai to anywhere I have been. Some things are really cheap - some foods - veggies etc. However Alcohol has 400% duty and is very very expensive (imported). The price also varies from store to store - a bottle of jack daniels would be 2700 rupees in one place and 2300 in another - that is about $ 65 american. Imported wine is also around 1000-3000 rupees a bottle - and sometimes they have not stored it correctly. The hotels charge even more. Pub prices are ok though.
Buying meat can be expensive if you dont know where to buy it. I was told to shop at a place called Sante in Pali market - a deli. However the meat i got was 2000 rupees a kilo, had freezer burn and was awful. The marriot hotel do fabulous local beef steaks for 80 rupees each.
The point is you need to spend alot of time finding these things out. Local produce is well prices, but imported goods are taxed.
Rental prices for apartments are also at an all time high. Best to get here and hit the ground running - you find out more that way.

Hi,
I'm a 22-year-old American student who is moving to Mumbai for a year starting September 20. If you're still looking for a place, I think it will be much cheaper and more pleasant to live with a flatmate. I'm looking in Bandra and South Mumbai. Let me know if you're interested! |
