Whether you are considering moving to Sai Kung district or you are a long time resident - check out Explore Sai Kung for information and discussion specific to this, the most beautiful and liveable part of Hong Kong. Of course, I must declare my bias - as a 10 yr resident in the district as well as the publisher of Explore Sai Kung.

<sniff> Many Thanks...... very helpful.
I always hear about expats living in Discovery Bay or in Mid-Levels but for me Sai Kung was always far better. I was fortunate that we could basically decide for ourselves to put our office so we located that in Shatin and lived in SK. A nice easy drive into work.
In general i see more expats out in Shatin and Tai Po than when i left a few years ago so i'm pleased people are discovering there is more than just SoHo and TST.
The walks in SK were great although a little hard going in the summer. The lack of an MTR station in town kept only the serious visitors interested and it's about an hour by bus from Shatin so it keeps the image that it's a bit isolated.
Cheap place to live, free parking at most homes, fresh air, beautiful scenery right outside you window / off your balcony, space, laid back and relaxed lifestyle yet everything you need is available in town, friendly villages and once you get used to the dogs.......quiet.
The only downside would be that McD's would be packed with Filipinos on a Sunday and we could never get a seat. Always had to just take-out. |

Glad can be of help...with virtual kleenex
When we were in HK we used to drive around on some Saturdays. Have been to ShaTim,TaiPo and around HK Island. Once we wanted to go to SaiKung, but we took the wrong exit and ended going elsewhere.
What's the best way to go from Central, now that we don't own a car in HK?
Lately too, I've noticed more expats in areas that normally are not expats choices even 2-3 years ago. Like KennedyTown on the very west of HK Island.
I guess many expats work on HK island and around TST Kowloon and so it's just convenience that they live close by or over at Discovery Bay. Many who live up at Mid-Levels don't drive to work because of that Escalator that runs all the way down.
If we had a choice would rather live further away like you said, where there are less air pollution and more space.
MacDonald outlets everywhere are filled with Filipinos on Sundays even that new one at IFC. So it's not a good day to visit and eat-in |

Yeah, there's no getting away from them any more no matter if you head up to the Chinese Border these days. I try to limit my exposure though |
