Hey guys
was just wondering if there's anyone living in Tai Po in this forum.
I arrived in HK a month ago and live in Tai Po for about two weeks now. Nice area but very quiet. Night life is like, well, haven't noticed anything happening here. Am I the only expat over here? |

Used to stay there several years ago but right, not a whole lot happening there and i was near the centre.
I liked the peace of it though after living a few years in Hung Hom. |

Hi Ced,
I live in Tai Po..well used to...just moved to Sheung Shui a few months ago. Needed more space to store all the stuff I have for my design & construction business.
'Night Life' - well depends on what you are looking for.
Movies & clubs...well...none.
But if you are into the pub scene, then I'd say Tai Po has got the largest number of pubs in any town in Hong Kong.
You'd just need to spend some time walking around and you'd find them.
But if you drive towards Tai Mei Tuk, there a few more nice spots facing the sea - mainly restaurants.
The main road area in Taipo Market town has quite a few pubs too.
Some are tucked away on the many small streets( opposite side of the Jockey Club) where there are numerous mechanic/car repair shops.
I would say at least one pub per street, which are only a block long.
I have seen lots of expats hanging out in a pub close to the Jockey Club betting centre. Just walk down the side lane on the right hand side of the Jockey Club where there's a furniture store and you won't miss it.
Taipo is basically divided into 2 parts separated by the bridge.
Taipo Market MTR station & Tai Wo stations are basically 25 minutes walking distance apart. They are both considered Tai Po.
The main bus terminus area where JUSCO mega mall ( sushi on sale after 9pm) is located does not have any pubs, but all the restaurants you can think of. The closest you can get to a decent cup of coffee is the McCafe, which is located on the main road there.
If you ventured not far from the main bus terminus there are also a few more pubs! Walk towards the Super Star chinese restaurant.
There is also a nice little restaurant here that only serves crab and nothing else. Nice!
You can bring your own bottle of red wine to this place and they would even store it for you for your next visit!
Now as to where this is located, along with 4 or 5 other pubs - well they are scattered about on the streets behind the old temple and the Super Star restaurant.
If you are coming by train, its directly opposite Tai Wo station - about 5 minutes on foot. Venture into the part that is the actual original old Taipo( Tai Po Kau-in Chinese) - though it doesn't look like it any more.
Good luck and have fun in Tai Po. Its actually quite a decent place to live in.
