RESIDENCY PERMIT IN HONDURAS

Before heading off, you must gather the proper paperwork and head to the nearest Honduran Consulate. It takes about two weeks to apply.

To apply for residency, you will need the following:

• Your passport, valid for at least one year from the date of your application
• Your birth certificate
• Your police record showing you are in good standing with the law
• A health certificate

All of these documents must be authenticated by the appropriate authorities where the document is issued, and the nearest Honduran Consulate.

You will also need the following:

• Six passport-size photos

• An application for residency, which must be completed and signed before the consul and submitted along with a payment of US$150 per person

• A sworn statement declaring that you do not belong and did not belong at any time in the past to the Communist Party (This must be signed in the presence of a consul officer and submitted along with a payment of US$50 per person.)

• A sworn statement declaring that you will abide by the laws of Honduras, to be signed in the presence of a consul officer and submitted with a payment of US$50

For each document processed through the consul office, be prepared to pay a US$50 charge, which will bring the cost to about US$400 per person. You can also get a residency permit with the help of a local lawyer.

The current cost for the residency application is US $300. The consulate "authentication" fees can be avoided by having your documents (birth certificate, medical and criminal report, etc.) apostilled in the state in which they were issued.

Information from the consulates is often inaccurate and should not be relied upon.

All residencies must be processed through a Honduran attorney.

Hello can you tell me i recenty had a problem where I threw a plastic bottle at another person car after they threw one at mines, I got arrested and charged with terroristic acts because of that which is a felony. I am waiting to go to court now, do I need to wait until I go to court to see what the outcome would be first to apply for residency in honduras? And if I am charged with that felony would that destroy my chances of living in honduras?

Hello Mangu,

When I first read your question, I thought you were putting me on but I'll answer anyway. I believe that it would depend on whether the criminal charge is on your police record currently. If it isn't (innocent until proven guilty?), the police record is all that is looked at. If you are convicted of a felony, then I'm afraid that would probably limit your chances of receiving residency in Honduras. Knowing the way things work in Honduras, I doubt that there is any opportunity to explain your "crime." Police records must be current within the past 6 months at the time of applying for residency.

I saw the question about the felony and have a similar question. In 1989 I was convicted of 2 felonies involving delivery of a controlled sustance....I have not been in any trouble with the law since then....will this inhibit my getting residency in Honduras ? Thank you.
