VISA TO ECUADOR
The following information was obtained from the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Relations and must be confirmed with the Ecuadorian Embassy or Consulate in your own country. Visa policies and regulations change very frequently.
Most travellers to Ecuador will not have to think about procuring a visa before departure. When you arrive, the migration officials will stamp a tourist visa valid up to 90 days. If you plan to stay the whole time, be sure to request the full visa limit as they will sometimes give a visa for less time.
Citizens of the following countries can enter on a tourist visa:
Argentina, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Russian Federation, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK and Northern Ireland, USA, Uruguay, Vatican Republic, Venezuela
Work, Study and Extended Travel Visas
If citizens of the above countries want to work, study, or just travel for more than 90 days, they need to look into a different visa. Tourist visas can be extended up to 6 months per year, one month at a time after the 90 day time-limit has expired. Work visas are more complicated and are best arranged with the employer, who will have to have a lawyer. Student visas are less complicated but are also best obtained with the help of the school or study program, which will undoubtedly have experience in jumping the necessary hoops.
To get a visa valid for a year or more, you need to choose between two main types of visas: resident and non-resident (referred to as immigrant and non-immigrant on the Ecuadorian government website). Student visas, work visas, volunteer and religious work visas, cultural exchanges and tourist visas all fall under the category of non-resident. If you are planning to stay for more than a year, and want to be able to work and have unlimited exit and entry status, you may want to look into a resident visa.
Citizens who cannot enter Ecuador on a Tourist Visa:
Citizens of the following countries will not be able to enter Ecuador with a tourist visa and need to seek advice from the Ecuadorian Embassy in their home country before travel.
