Does anybody know what the air quality is around Otavalo?

Are pesticides used heavily around Otavalo? What about surrounding villages? Is there heavy farming there?

Is it possible to find a place to rent on the countryside outside of a small village in that area?

Air quality is pretty good throughout the highlands. The bigger cities do have occasional problems with traffic smog, but to be honest I find it much less oppressive than in many developing countries - even Quito isn't too bad.
