Yes the immigration officer can ask you questions like "where will you be staying at for the duration of your stay" or might ask you about your purpose of visit.
Im a resident here, and they sometimes ask out of curiosity "where I traveled to, did I enjoy it?" and they often crack jokes. The officers are very approachable and easy going.
I've never heard a case of anyone getting "rejected at the port of entry" - like in the states.
