Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing Government of Dubai

The Department is responsible for the promotion of Dubai as a major regional and international centre of business and tourism. Its activities include trade fair participation and organisation, inward and outward missions, seminars and presentations, special events, information services, advertising, publications and media relations. In addition to its responsibilities for promoting trade, investment and tourism, the Department is the primary planning, regulating, licensing and development authority for all matters relating to tourism in the emirate.

Department of Economic Development

Established in 1992, the Department has wide ranging responsibility for the emirate's economic development and plays a leading role in the formulation of economic and commercial policy. It is also responsible for the regulation of companies and for maintaining the emirate's commercial register. The Department has authority over the granting of trade licences.

Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Jabel Ali Free Zone Authority

Established in 1985, the Authority is charged with supervision of the Free Zone. Its responsibilities include issuing rules and licences to companies wishing to operate in Jebel Ali. It is also active in developing the infrastructure within the zone and for providing a wide range of services and administrative support, including personnel recruitment, for companies in the Free Zone.

Dubai Ports Authority, the operator of Port Rashid and Jebel Ali Port, is the largest operation of its kind in the Gulf. In 1997, DPA handled 36.0 million tonnes of cargo. Its throughput of 2.60 million TEUs makes it one of the top ten container ports in the world.
