My wife and I are seriously looking at trying to start a charter business in DR. We would ultimately like to provide 1-2 week packages for living and dining aboard a 63' yacht. In order to support ourselves in the mean time, we were thinking that we could meet and greet the passengers from the local cruise ships and offer day cruises with diving, dining and island exploration.
Does anyone know the limitations or draw backs to this?
The things we are looking for are the current prices of Diesel fuel and where can we find ports to refuel, get fresh water and food supplies. Are there any people/officials we should/need talk with about the charter business. Are there special licenses or regulations to be met by the local Coast Guard or other Maritime association?
Finally, and probably most importantly, it appears La Romana is the most common port for the cruise lines. Is there any advantage to Santo Domingo and it's airport?
d0ug: I hope you are still monitoring this forum... any information you can pass along is greatly appreciated. We are terribly excited about the idea of finally being on the island.
Regards,
