I'm not familiar with the Bank CD but only put in the bank here what your willing to loose. The last government here robbed the banks and some when under. Maybe 10% or 15% looks good only if the peso stays the same. It is a gamble that you have to decide what's best.
I friend built a house next door to mine last year the basic house cost US 21,000 it is a two bedroom about 9,000 square feet. Five miles from here in the tourist area it would be more than twice that price.
When I get home sick for Canada I look at my photo album of all those cold winter days and my home sickness disappears very rapidly.
Do you speak Spanish?

Hi duwight
I hope I didn't scare you off as I'm a little negative but I don't like to give bad information. I tend to be very cautious. The weather here has been cold it went to the high 60 which is cold for here. Hopefully it will reach 80 to-day.

You said you would like to get away from the tourist areas. You can rent a house near me for about $70 per month. I would suggest learning a little Spanish before you move to the countryside.

Hi Doug,
My husband and I are very interested in visiting DR next summer with hope to plan a move there shortly after. After browsing the web we think that the central/north areas would work for us.

We live very simply here in Texas, have built our own concrete block house, which we hope to rent for spending money, and my husband works online (web programmer) so that we can raise our 3 children together. We're looking for a place where the culture is more relaxed and less consumerist, where we can grow food and children in good weather, maybe get a sail boat and cruise, and not be stuck in the Big Brother type government we have here in the States.

At the moment we are just trying to make some contacts in the country and get to know some like minded folks who could show us a few of the ropes.

We'd be glad to get in touch with you!

I sailed into Luperon some years ago and found it a great place to retire to but that's just my opinion. The prices are reasonable and labor is cheap. If I went back to Canada my pension would not be enough to live on I would have to go back to work. I have friends that work on the internet and live here very comfortably. If I can help with any questions about living here just ask. When you come next summer come visit I'm 15 minutes from Luperon
