|
On September 23rd, sweeping changes will take place with the new Reform to the Transit Law (Reforma 7331 Ley de Transito).
Although COSEVI is obligated by law to inform the entire populace to the point of being familiar with all the changes, nothing's been released in English that lets the gringo sector really understand what we're in for.
What we're in for is a VERY HARSH, STRICT, NEW TRANSIT LAW AND LICENSE SYSTEM. There will also be 400 new Transito Officers on the road, whereas right now there's only 800 working officers.
New computerized drivers' licenses, huge new fines, lots of new infractions possible, new devices everyone must carry, new regulations for bicyclists and motorcyclists, child safety seats for ALL children under 12, and a lot more. Too much to put here.
Get informed, be prepared, learn your rights, know how to file complaints and appeal citations, report abuses, pay your tickets and deal with the new points system. newleydetransito dot com has the ebook ($9.95), with explanations of the new changes, and the complete translated reform, as well as the original Spanish text of the Reform for reference. 181 pages. 50 pages of explanations and details, with 130 pages of the actual law.
Sept 23rd is the date you must be ready. Common sense and first-world driving experience WILL NOT PREPARE YOU. There's a lot more to it.
Hope this helps people get ready, and HAPPY MOTORING!!
