Hey, so ive got a question im hoping someone can relate to and help me with. Ive been searching alot but im finding it hard to come up with an answer so i thought if i write down my problem maybe someone will see it and be able to help me
I am currently living in Chongqing and teaching. I have a residence permit that expires on the 10th July 2009. I am going to be in China until 4th Aug 2009. Can i get my residence permit extended? Should i just apply for a L-Visa (toursit) once it expires? Do i need to be in Chongqing on the date of expiry to get an extension because this is the issuing city? If i can apply for a L-Visa, can i do this on the 4th july 2009 and just got a normal 30 day visa or would i need to wait until 10th July as that is when my residence permit expires?
I know its a lot of questions but hopefully someone can answer them!
Thank in advance

Hey Paul,
Im not to sure about the procedures in Chongqing but in Beijing you normally just have to go to the PSB (Public Security Bureau) or the issuing place and renew your RP for free. I would suggest you go there one or to days before your old permit expires in order not to get any (time-)problems.
If u want to get an L-Visa you can apply anytime, but make sure its valid until the 4th august (which means if you at least renew it on July 4th it should be fine).
But i recommend just to extend your residence permit, thats the easiest way.

Hi Paul,
Based on my personal experience i had here, my Work Permit is expired on 7th April 2009.(I'm not sure we talking about the same thing Resident permit and work permit) Three days before my visa expired I went to shanghai exit and entry administration bureau and required them to renew my visa to L visa with the reason I need some times to renew my work permit. The give me permission to renew it with 30 days under L Visa. For your information, they only allowed you to renew one times with L Visa. Document you need to bring there is letter from company with company chop stated that you need to renew your work permit, photo, passport and filled up the form. You always need to be in the place you apply your work permit since you work there.
Hope that help you with your question.
P/s the reason why i went to the shanghai exit and entry administration bureau late i used that as reason i need times to renew my work permit. If you go too early they might as you may as well renew your work permit first since renewing work permit just take 3 days.
Good Luck.

Just to clarify - it's possible to change the 30 day exit-only L visa you get when your resident permit expires into another resident permit? I know I know it's possible with a regular L, but I was wondering if there were any restrictions with the 30 day L. I might not be able to get my work permit before my visa expires, so I want to make sure I can change it first to the 30 day exit only L and then back to the resident permit without any problems.
It seems like you were saying you could do this?
Thanks! |

Hi there,
I need some info on the procedure for signing a new contract & time taken for the same. I've just finished my contract with my present school. I am considering signing a new contract with the city college, which means I'll be staying in the same city. Can anyone please tell me the formalities needed to be accomplished by the college in order to extend my Residence permit(Z-visa). I have got about 15 days left before my permit expires, so I am concerned as to how long should I wait for them to be done with the procedures(or at least start the process) before I run out of time & have to return back to my country & do it all over again.
Also how long does it normally take for extension of the Z-visa?And how different is it from getting a new Z-visa for the first time?
And does my employee have to submit both the contract & the appendix to the Foreign Expert Bureau to begin the process? Because I've heard that they can just submit the contract & the appendix isn't mandatory as it is prepared by the school(here I mean college) authorities. At present there is a delay in the application because the college officials are not yet ready with the appendix & they need some more time.
So how long can I wait before I should call it quits & go back for the summer? Is it possible for me to apply something like a week before the residence permit deadline & let the visa be in process?Would I be then overstaying my visa or not?
P.S. Please excuse me for the extensive text.I just want to make myself clear. |
