Another one of those subjective questions, but I'm keen to hear all opinions.
There is a chance of my relocation to Shenzhen in the near future. I stayed for two days in Shekou while spending time with my prospective employer. Although I didn't get to see much, I must say that I liked Shekou. That coupled with the facts that there are two INTL schools nearby (for my 10yo daughter) and its relative proximity to the airport where I'll be working are a few points in its favour. Futian pops up quite regularly in the expat threads - I haven't really done any research on it, but are there any relative pros/cons when compared to Shekou?

If you are coming as a familly then either will give you good choices for food, accomodation and access to the airport but I dont know about schooling. For nightlife Shekou is a little better and if you were single then I would definitely suggest Shekou. The thing with Shenzhen is that it changes rapidly. There are new places opening every day. NanShan which is between the two also has good choices of accomodation, food and shopping but is little lacking in nightlife. Shenzhen is easy to get around anyway. A taxi from Futian to Shekou will cost around RMB60 or less than USD11 or if you have a driver then 30 minutes.
If you are a pilot (you mention working at the aiport) then quite a number stay at RoseGarden in Shekou but your prospective employer should arrange all that for you. |

Well if you hesitate between Futian and Shekou, just go at the middle.
To my mind, Nanshan is the best place to live in SZ. Near Shekou, ear Futian, near the aiport, and with the subway soon.
Most of the Chinese in this district are employee for big company, so they are pretty calm and open for foreigners. |
