Well they're claiming that they've done it, still waiting for full confirmation though.
Is there much public discussion about it in China, in both the media and public circles? What's the general attitude?

They put so much effort into negotiating with NK that it must be hard to swallow right now...

Depending on what China does it may actually work to their advantage. They have to walk a fine line of continuing Kim's rule of the DPRK, stopping Japan and the ROK from militarising and making it look to the world that their are playing the role of a responsible great power.
If they pull all this together they stand to increase their international standing by a significant measure.
Alternatively, they could fail, end up with a unified Korea under western influence, be inundated by Nth Korean refugees, a nuclear Japan and ROK and/or tensions with the USA. All depends on how they handle it and how reactive Kim chooses to be.
Interesting times. |
