Some people tell you it is easy to start up a business in Chile.

If you want to start up a company with limited liability (ltda.) things can get very complicated. If you choose not to associate with a partner with Chilean nationality, the SII (the tax administration) will not allow you to start up.

Chilean laws require an administrator with a Chilean identity card. The process of obtaining such an ID will take at least three months. You will have to apply for a visum first and actually receive your temporary visum before you can apply for the ID card.

The identity card is also necessary for getting an internet account, a bank account, etc.

So be aware: even most lawyers don't know about the procedure.
