Hello!
So, in 8 weeks I am moving to Phnom Pehn, should be teaching English to remain in-situ for indefinite time, looking to make this a permanent move of sorts, if things work out well.
Got a few questions, if thats ok...
1) Is this a lively forum? As in, am I likely to be able to make a good number of Cambodian contacts here over the next 8 weeks, if I hang out here enough? Would be good to spend a bit of time on a forum where this can happen
2a) Whats the dance music scene like in Cambodia/Phnom Pehn? Now, lets get this straight, I'm not talking YMCA or Abba! I have DJed happy h*arcore, D'n'B, hard house, NRG/hard trance, and have a great love of fast and chunky electronic dance music... been organising such parties for over 10 years. Has the rave scene influenced Cambodia in any way or will the most kicking club be my forthcoming apartment? I've heard hip hop is starting to get a look in over there, this is cool since I loved hip hop before the UK house music explosion happened.
2b) Whats the scope like for a Farang to book a club and instigate a club night? I'm wondering if I can find use for my music collection there as I have over here I wouldn't want this Farang exclusive... would like to show Khmers the cream of what the underground dance scene can produce

Hi Jodha, here, let me shed some light onto your questions there... you should have dug about on the internet a little more but never mind, I have for you!

1) No, it's pretty dead here. Some would expect more life to be discovered on Mars. Dont worry tho, go check out the forums at "expat-advisory 'dot' com", it certainly looks more alive!
2a) Dont expect it to be as kicking as you've found it in the UK. However, in 2005 Elsewhere staged the first D'n'B night, and you might some some good tunage at Equinox.
2b) This will probably depend on the rapport you build with people like at Equinox. There is DJing happening so there would be scope to spin some tunes.
